About me

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and have lived in California almost all my life. I love animals and nature and feel compelled to protect them. I was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and was also born transgendered.

I have loved writing poetry ever since I was a child. I published my first book of poetry, “Breathing Into The Sunlight” in 2008 through blurb.com.

I was on the poetry editorial board for the Toyon, the literary journal of Humboldt State University in 2009 and was the poetry editor of the national edition of the 2008 Red Wheelbarrow Literary Magazine. Also, my poems, “Flickering Flames”, “Nuts”, and “Vision”, were published in the student edition of the 2007 Red Wheelbarrow Literary Magazine, under the name “Brian Leigh Graham.” In addition, “Nuts” won 2nd Prize in the 2007 Red Wheelbarrow Awards for Poetry.

Some of my other hobbies and interests include birds, linguistics, baseball, reading speculative fiction, tarot, trilobites, redwoods, music, and NaNoWriMo.

  1. Hi Sarah!
    What an honest self appraisal.
The very best of lives, however you wish to live it.
I appreciated the different perspective on transistion and all it entails. You are brave either decision.

    • Thank you very much, Rosanne!
